Cost lever Sales-speak decoder

Manufacturer's suggested retail

MSRP, in a window pitch

A high “list” number a window is almost never actually sold at — the starting point a big discount is measured down from.

What it means for you

The anchor in “$60,000, but today $34,000.” The only number that matters is the final installed price per window; the discount off an inflated list tells you nothing.

Where you'll see it

The top line of an in-home price presentation, right before the promotions come off.

Don't be fooled

A big percentage off a big MSRP is a framing device. Divide the final price by your window count and compare that.
