Fiber cement
A dense siding board of cement, sand, and cellulose fiber — the premium NC default. Non-combustible, rot- and pest-resistant, and it reads like painted wood.
What it means for you
The storm-and-climate choice for NC: it shrugs off humidity, hail, and salt air, resists fire and termites, and a factory-baked color finish fades far less than vinyl. It costs more and is heavy, skilled labor — and it needs re-caulking and eventual repaint, so it's low-maintenance, not no-maintenance.
