Weep hole
Small drainage slots along the bottom outside edge of a window that let rainwater escape instead of pooling in the frame.
What it means for you
Blocked weep holes are a top cause of “leaky” windows that aren't actually leaking. A five-minute clean beats a service call.
Where you'll see it
On the exterior sill, sometimes behind a tiny hinged flap. Most homeowners never notice them.
Don't be fooled
A drafty-window pitch rarely mentions that clogged weeps — not the window — may be the real problem.
