Transom

A window above a door (or another window) — sometimes a decorative arch, sometimes an operable vent.

What it means for you

A classic way to add height and light over an entry or patio door. Usually fixed and decorative today; it adds glass area and cost and, like a sidelite, can be specified with privacy or impact glass.

Where you'll see it
