Threshold
The bottom sill piece you step over in a doorway, which the door's sweep seals down against to keep out water and air.
What it means for you
Where doors leak and rot. An adjustable threshold set in sealant, back-dammed to drain water out, and paired with a good sweep is the difference between a dry entry and a rotted subfloor. Ask about the sill pan under it on a replacement.
