Storm door
A secondary outer door — usually glass over screen — mounted in front of your entry door for weather protection, light, and ventilation.
What it means for you
Genuinely useful on an older or unprotected door, or when you want to open up for a breeze. But over a dark, sun-facing modern fiberglass or steel door, a full-glass non-venting storm door can trap heat and cook the entry door — and many entry-door warranties exclude that damage. If you add one, choose a venting or retractable-screen style and check the warranty first.
