Drip cap

A small flashing ledge installed above the window that kicks rain running down the wall out and away from the top of the frame.

What it means for you

Cheap, easy, and often skipped on quick installs — its absence shows up later as staining and rot at the window head. On a full-frame job in rainy NC it's a detail worth confirming.

Where you'll see it

Above the window, tucked under the siding or trim; rarely itemized.

Also sold as: head flashing
